On iPad, why are some music apps not displayed in the plugin list?

Modified on Mon, 29 Dec at 10:44 AM

Camelot for iPad supports AUv3 plugin format only. Some Apps are not compliant with this standard so they can’t be displayed on the list.

You can still use these instruments if they can:

  • support MIDI virtual ports
  • receive program changes and bank select MIDI messages
  • run audio in the background

In these cases, you can run your music apps in the background and use MIDI programs to manage and controls those apps in the same way you would manage any external MIDI instrument. In the MIDI program, you have to select the MIDI virtual port exposed by the music app.

The reason why we don't support Inter App Audio is that they are single instances, and IAA format has been declared deprecated by Apple.
